Why did you choose to work at Ambition?
One of my friends used to work here and when he left he asked me if I would be interested in taking over from him. Obviously we had a chat about the working environment of Ambition and he said that it was a fun and friendly place to work. The previous company that I worked at was good as well but I saw the opportunity to further my career, so that’s why I chose to work here.
How did you get into IT?
I studied computer science and information technology at the University of East London and continued to go to courses after finishing my studies there and then I got my first IT job.
What did you do before you joined Ambition?
I was working at a different company in a similar IT role. Before that I used to work in Pizza Hut as a receptionist on a part-time contract when I was 20 to make some money to survive!
What did you want to be as a child?
As a child, too many things *laughs*, but I remember that I wanted to become a mechanical engineer so I began to turn towards it. However, my grades at the time didn’t allow me to go after it as a career so I turned to IT because the industry was booming. Both subjects are not related yet both were technical, so I took interest in it.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Pakistan, in a small city called Peshawar, which is north-west Pakistan.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My biggest inspiration has got to be my dad because of the way he worked for the family and his support he gave to us single-handedly. He is a self-made man and worked hard to ensure our futures were intact. In terms of my professional career, I would say that one of my biggest inspirations is my IT manager here at Ambition. His ability to do things easily and effectively has inspired me a lot to take this career of mine even more seriously.
What are some of the hobbies you do outside of work?
Outside of work I love to travel. I have not travelled much to different countries but I am constantly travelling across the UK. I also love to play sport, I am into cricket and football.
What has been your biggest task while working at Ambition?
There have been a couple of big challenges but one that stands out in particular is when I had to migrate the London users from the exchange server, which used to be our email server, to the office 365 which is cloud-based.
What advice would you give someone wanting to get into IT?
Working in IT is hard in that you have to continue to study because technology changes almost every day. You’ve got to keep yourself engaged with the IT and technology side and just carry on keeping up the hard work.
If you had to sum up your time working in Ambition in just three words, what would they be?
Fun, inspirational, friendly.
