Financial Services Consultant
Time with Ambition
What is your background?
After completing a degree in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Birmingham, I moved back to my hometown of Leicester where I secured a recruitment job specialising in the placement of white collar and blue collar staff into the Property Management Sector.
Upon relocating to London in October last year, I joined Ambition as a Temporary Consultant within the Financial Services: Finance & Accounting team. I focus on placing part, newly and fully qualified Finance and Accounting Professionals into temporary and contract vacancies within the Investment Management and Insurance Sectors.
What first attracted you to Ambition?
I had several job offers from Recruitment Agencies of varying sizes: some big corporate organisations and some smaller boutique firms. Ambition provided the perfect balance between the two in that it has an international presence but maintains a boutique atmosphere that provides Consultants with a chance to progress either in the UK or overseas.
The chance to work in places like Sydney or Hong Kong, plus a closely knit team environment where you had direct access to senior management, made Ambition seem like the right choice.
Typical day at Ambition for you?
It sounds cliché but I don’t think there is one. My days are spent either sourcing candidates for roles with existing clients or using a variety of marketing and networking techniques to develop new business. There are days when you are at your desk from 8:30am – 6pm and days where you may be at your desk for five minutes. No two days are the same.
Describe your team – what are they like?
The team was one of my instant attractions to Ambition. They are professional in their approach, knowledgeable in their sector and always act with integrity. We’re a good bunch and work well together, capitilising on each other’s strengths and aiding each other in areas of development.
Not that we only talk about work – not a moment goes by where Carolyn doesn’t mention her beloved Arsenal!
How does working at Ambition help you develop as a professional?
My first couple of weeks were split between classroom sessions with one or two new consultants and on the desk training. Ambition were very good at highlighting where I was in my development and recognised that although I didn’t need my hand held when I joined, there were areas I needed to revisit and consolidate.
I was trusted to work on a vacancy straight away and, with some helpful direction from the team, was able to make a placement in my second week.
What is something you now know about Ambition that you didn’t know before you joined?
There is an annual incentive trip – last year the top performers went to Dubai…
What is your favourite perk?
Definitely the free fruit that gets delivered to the office daily. I never fail to get my five-a-day!
