Consultant – Business Development & Marketing.
Time with Ambition
Originally from South Africa, I moved to London over 4 years ago. I had graduated with a degree in Corporate Communications and after completing a marketing internship with a real estate firm in London, I had planned to find a permanent position within the marketing space.
What first attracted you to Ambition?
I spoke with a few agencies when searching for my first marketing role – some were OK and some were not good at all.
I received a call from Lacey at Ambition (who works in the BD & Marketing team) and I remember her being very friendly, warm and honest – basically she gave me hope!
The following week I went in to meet with her and we immediately hit it off. Lacey must have seen something in me that made her ask: “What are your thoughts on recruitment?” It wasn’t something I had really considered before, mainly because I wasn’t exactly sure what it entailed, but before I knew it I was interviewing with the Managing Director and got offered the job the day after.
The thing that attracted me most to Ambition was the company culture and employee benefits.
Typical day at Ambition for you?
Days are always different. Some days I find myself glued to my desk all day and other days I find myself out and about meeting client and candidates – my favorite type of day!
Amongst sourcing candidates, sending CVs, prepping for interviews and getting briefed by clients there isn’t a day that goes by where our team isn’t in hysterics over stories from the weekend or silly jokes. The team culture is really what makes Ambition stand out from the crowd.
How does working at Ambition help you develop as a professional?
The list is endless. I have learnt so much more about the field of marketing and business development, probably even more than I did during my 4 years of studying it! I really enjoy being able to fully understand what each role I am recruiting for entails and not a day goes by that I don’t learn something new.
My confidence has also improved. I feel that with all the training and skills that Ambition has provided me with, I am able to speak to and work with my candidates and clients with confidence.
What is something you know about Ambition that you didn’t know before you joined?
I didn’t know how amazing the incentives were. I understood that if I performed well I would reap the benefits but I wasn’t aware of the extra perks.
The highest performers of the month get taken out for lunch every 2 months and last year our highest billers of the year went to Dubai – the incentive trip is something I am aiming for this year!
What is your favourite perk?
Definitely the Friday afternoon drinks. It’s the perfect way to finish off work for the week and socialise with colleagues, before heading over to our local.
Who would you recommend Ambition to?
Anyone interested in a career in recruitment. Ambition has a great culture and training programme providing a platform to excel your career. They also have offices around the globe if you ever fancied an international move along the line.
