Time with Ambition
I decided against going to university, so after finishing my A levels I completed a 1 year Diploma at Pitman Training. After that I went straight into recruitment.
What first attracted you to Ambition?
For me it was the training programme they offer. I was still quite new to the industry at the time and I wanted to get some more formal training under my belt. Ambition has an excellent reputation for this. I was lucky enough to be head hunted by a friend of a friend so the fact that the firm came highly recommended and had a good reputation in the industry was also something that really appealed to me.
Typical day at Ambition for you?
There is no such thing as a typical day for me as I can never predict what is going to happen! Of course, I try to plan what I want to achieve each day/week/month but in recruitment things can change at the drop of a hat so you have to think on your feet a lot. Generally speaking though, my day is spent liaising with candidates and clients, booking in meetings with people who want my help in finding them a new role and lots of interview preparations. I also manage to make time for some banter with my team – we laugh a lot!
How does working at Ambition help you develop as a professional?
Ambition really focuses on providing clear career paths for consultants. There are different avenues to follow whether you choose to go down the management route or if you prefer to focus on a more senior consultant role. The senior management team are hugely supportive. All of the consultants sit down with our manager once a month and go over how we are tracking against our career goals which is extremely useful.
What is something you know about Ambition that you didn’t know before you joined?
Before joining, I didn’t know that Ambition as a company had been around for a long as it has been and I didn’t realise it had such an international presence. Granted, Ambition isn’t the largest recruitment agency out there (and nor do we want to be) but there is such a large international reach with offices all over Australia and Asia. Something that Ambition does really well is to encourage people to move internally across the international offices and they make opportunities available to people who are looking to relocate. This makes that process so much easier and far less nerve wracking for someone who may be moving abroad to be joining their current firm in another country!
What is your favourite perk?
It is only a small thing but something I really appreciate is that we have a huge selection of fresh fruit delivered to the office every day which helps everyone stay that little bit healthier. It would really add up if were were to buy it ourselves so that is something which I don’t take for granted.
Who would you recommend Ambition to?
I would recommend Ambition to anybody who is hard working, driven, fun to be around and down to earth. Ambition has a fantastic culture here and everybody gets on so well it is a like a big (at times dysfunctional) family, so if someone wants to build a career for themselves in a supportive, inclusive, fun company then they should get in touch with us.
