Senior Consultant – Insolvency & Restructuring.
Time with Ambition
I graduated from Kent University in English Literature & Creative Writing with the original intention of forging a career in Journalism. After considering the financial rewards of working in Recruitment during my final year at University, I ended up joining Ambition as a Resourcer in Professional Services. Six months later, I progressed to a full 360 degree Consultant recruiting into the UK Restructuring and Insolvency market before working my way up to Senior Consultant 12 months later.
What first attracted you to Ambition?
The company culture. I knew someone who had worked for the firm as a Resourcer and she spoke very highly of the firm and the positive team culture.
Typical day at Ambition for you?
No two days are the same but most will include conducting candidate registration meetings to establish what someone is looking for in a new role, attending client briefings to learn more about a particular job requirement, developing new business with potential clients and generating new candidates from our database, LinkedIn, referrals and team mapping for headhunting purposes.
The morning consists of sourcing for specific roles, going through advert responses, working with my team and speaking with active and passive candidates to build my network.
Lunch can vary – usually I spend it meeting a candidate or sometimes go out with clients for lunch to build and strengthen relationships.
In the afternoon I usually do more client work, business development, catching up and discussing the market, offering salary advice and highlighting any events that we have coming up. I also use LinkedIn to find new candidates and clients as well as sourcing and working on roles which may involve organising interviews or obtaining candidate feedback.
How does working at Ambition help you develop as a professional?
Ambition has really helped me to develop my career in that I have been given an opportunity to fully immerse myself in a niche market and have the freedom to take complete ownership of my work. I have been given the tools to make it work and have been entrusted to develop and enhance relationships with new and existing clients. This has in turn made me far more confident and commercial.
What is something you know about Ambition that you didn’t know before you joined?
Ambition celebrates the ‘national days’ of the countries we have offices in such as ‘Australia Day’, ‘Chinese New Year’ etc. which is always great fun.
What is your favourite perk?
Beers at 4.30pm on a Friday – it’s a nice touch that rewards a good week’s work.
Who would you recommend Ambition to?
I would recommend Ambition to anyone who wants to work in a firm that encourages career and skill development. There is a high investment in the staff and it makes for an enjoyable place to work.
